At the age of 28, Beanie Feldstein already feels like the greatest star. She has already appeared on Broadway in the Tony-winning revival of Hello, Dolly! She’s won fans on the big screen in hit films like Lady Bird and Booksmart and is now starring in FX’s Impeachment: America Crime Story. In addition, she and her bestie Ben Platt will lead a movie adaptation of Merrily We Roll Along, set to film over the next 20 years. As previously announced, Feldstein is set to take on Fanny Brice in the first revival of this classic musical Funny Girl, and a gorgeous first photo of her in character arrived on October 6.
And yet, there is something Feldstein has yet to do. In an interview with Variety, she revealed that she has yet to meet Barbara Streisand. “I would probably be speechless, so I should take in a list of questions. I would not be able to make words. Funny Girl introduced me to what musicals are. A three-year-old asking for her birthday party to be themed Funny Girl is as ridiculous as it sounds, but it was a foundation for my love of musical theater,” she told Variety. “I would feel my life crashing in if I ever got to meet Barbra Streisand. I would shake for days.” Perhaps Feldstein will finally meet the icon during her upcoming Broadway stint in the iconic show.
As previously reported, Funny Girl, directed by Michael Mayer, will begin performances on March 26, 2022 and officially open on April 24 at Broadway’s August Wilson Theatre. Enjoy the “hello gorgeous” photo of Feldstein as Fanny above, and check out the fun art for the revival below!
